Ikigai (生き甲斐, 'a reason for being') is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living.

MY Story

After graduating from a low socio-economic government school in Western Australia, I gained entry into university to pursue a teaching degree. By my final year of university, I had secured a position as a high school teacher in a private school. Over the course of a decade, I taught at various government and private schools, accumulating valuable experience and insights. However, at the age of 30, I made the decision to embark on a new career path, seeking fresh challenges and opportunities for growth.

Following my teaching career, I pursued further education by studying a Certificate IV in Real Estate. This led to a successful seven-year tenure in real estate sales and business development. However, feeling the need for a deeper sense of purpose and passion, I made the bold decision to transition into law enforcement. Joining the WA Police Force, I underwent rigorous testing, both written and physical, as well as psychological evaluations to secure entry.

During my three years in law enforcement, I met my partner, and our family grew to include my two young boys aged 7 and 5, as well as her two young girls aged 5 and 3. What was once a financially stable career for single dad, became a strain with the addition of our fifth child, who is now 16 months old. This change prompted a need to seek out new opportunities to better support our expanded family of seven.

The financial strain brought about by our growing family necessitated some adjustments. Drawing on my experience as a police officer, I pursued additional training and obtained industry-recognized qualifications in work health and safety. This enabled me to secure employment in the mining industry as a Safety Advisor. However, the demanding FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) lifestyle proved challenging to manage with such a large family.

Undeterred, I decided to pivot once again. Leveraging my education degree, I embarked on a new venture and established my own WHS (work health and safety) training consultancy. Through dedication and hard work, I have successfully built a thriving business and forged a fulfilling career as a highly sought-after trainer.

The most rewarding aspect of my newfound passion and business is the opportunity to empower individuals to enhance their skills, advance their careers, and transition into exciting new opportunities. Guiding and coaching others in the art of pursuing their aspirations brings me immense fulfillment, drawing upon the valuable lessons learned from my own personal life experiences.
